Tonight marked the last home game of the season for the Battle Creek Bombers. The Bullfrogs beat the Bombers by a score of 5-3 in ten innings of play.
Travis Brown went 4-for-5 with two runs scored on the night. Greg Blanco pitched seven innings of baseballs with four hits against him. The Bombers scored three runs on 11 hits and the Bullfrogs scored five runs on 12 hits.
Scoring started happening in the second inning for both teams. Brent Young was hit by a pitch during his at bat. John Hasser stepped up to the plate and hit the ball to second base where the Bombers were able to get him out at first but he advanced Young to second base. Young then advance to third on a wild pitch thrown by Greg Blanco. Ryan Kehl had an RBI single that put the Bullfrogs up 1-0.
Josh Lyon ripped one to the outfield for a base hit and then Brett Kauten hit to get on base but Lyon ran into a force out. Travis brown had a base hit for the Bombers as he advanced Kauten. Shane Street went to the plate and popped an RBI single to tie the game at one-all. Deegan ripped a shot to the outfield and was able to drive in another run putting the Bombers on top of the Bullfrogs, 2-1.
More scoring took place in the bottom of the seventh for the Battle Creek Bombers. Brown hit a double to start out the seventh inning. Street hit a sacrifice bunt, which advanced Brown to third base. Jordan Dean was walked, which put runners on the corners for the home team. Otis was also walked which loaded up the bases. Another walk by the Bullfrogs pitching staff was able to score a run and put the Bombers ahead, 3-1.
In the eighth inning Dan Putnam stepped up for the Bullfrogs and hit a double to left field. Joe Betcher followed Putnam’s lead by jacking a double to right field. Putnam scored on a wild pitch, closing the gap to 3-2, Bombers. Andrew Eichstaedt had an RBI single for the Bullfrogs which tied the game at three.
With the game tied up at three, the Bombers and Bullfrogs went into extra innings. In the tenth the Bullfrogs were able to get on the board again and take the lead. Betcher was walked and then Eichsteadt had a base hit to put runners on first and second. Young was able to go for his second base hit of the night which scored a run, putting the Bullfrogs in the lead for the first time during the game. Tim Shibuya stepped in to bat and was able to get an RBI single to make the score 5-3.
