Steam Brings on Excellent Catcher from Eastern Illinois University
Catcher Avary Makarewicz Joins the Steam

LA CROSSE, WI – The La Crosse Steam added another talented player to their roster today as they announced the signing of catcher, Avary Makarewicz.

The 6’0” Eastern Illinois sophomore made her collegiate debut against Incarnate Word hitting a two-run home run in her first college at-bat. Over the course of her freshman season, she hit .200 with one double, one home run, and five RBI. She was also perfect in 43 fielding chances behind the plate.

Avary Makarewicz and the rest of the Steam will open their 2024 campaign at Copeland Park & Events Center on June 15th when they take on Madison Softball.

Leveraging the 30-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) will be the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League beginning play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024. The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play. Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
