Steam Rounds Out Coaching Staff with Final Assistant Coach
Jan Protsman named as an assistant coach for the La Crosse Steam

LA CROSSE, WI – As the La Crosse Steam gears up for their home opener they announce the final coach to join the staff, assistant coach, Jan Protsman. Jan is the current assistant coach of UW-La Crosse Softball, and with 20 years of hitting instruction under his belt, he is going to be a great asset to the team.

Jan Protsman joined the UW-La Crosse Eagles during the transition of the new coaching staff. A native of Lansing, Iowa, Protsman graduated from Viterbo University (Wis.) in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He played baseball for the V-Hawks for two years before starting to serve as an assistant softball coach.

Jan has been involved with many area high school and travel ball over the last 15 years while providing hitting instruction from the Wisconsin/Minnesota/Iowa area for 20 years. Protsman played at Kee High (Iowa) H.S., appearing in three state championships, winning one title.

Leveraging the 30-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) will be the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League beginning play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024. The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play. Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
