MADISON, WI- The La Crosse Steam endured a challenging game in Madison, falling 18-1 to the Night Mares in five innings at Warner Park in front of 2,322 fans.
La Crosse’s starter Rachel Mori struggled, lasting just one inning while giving up seven earned runs on seven hits. Sydney Schott came in as relief, pitching three innings and allowing five runs on seven hits.
Madison’s starter Andrea Jaskowiak delivered a solid performance, going four innings, giving up only one run, and striking out five.
The Night Mares’ offense exploded right from the start, scoring ten runs in the bottom of the first inning. Key moments included a home run by Tia Durst, RBI singles by Lexie Shaver and Sydney Jones, and additional home runs by Carly Oliver, Hilary Blomberg, and Rylee Rogers.
The Night Mares continued their offensive onslaught in the second inning, adding four more runs. Addie Blomberg drove in two runs on an error by the Steam’s shortstop Ashley Wolfe, Carly Oliver contributed an RBI single, and Sydney Jones scored on a wild pitch. Madison put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth inning by adding another four runs, securing the ten-run rule.
The Steam’s lone run came in the top of the second inning on an RBI double from Ashley Wolfe.
With this result, La Crosse falls to 1-1, while Madison improves to 1-1. The Steam will face the Night Mares again for game three of the opening week series at Warner Park, with the first pitch set for 6:05 p.m.
