LA CROSSE, WI — The La Crosse Steam secured a decisive 10-0 victory over the Minot Honeybees in six innings at Copeland Park, with 944 fans in attendance.
Steam starting pitcher Mackenzie Willis (Belmont) delivered an impressive performance, pitching six scoreless innings, allowing seven hits, and striking out eight batters.
Conversely, Honeybees starter Peyton Whitehead (Mary) struggled, lasting only 1.1 innings while conceding three runs on three hits and issuing three walks.
The Steam quickly established their lead in the bottom of the first inning. Grace Frechette (St. Cloud State) hit an RBI double, followed by Rachel Mori’s (William Peace) ground-out RBI, and an RBI single by Alexis Watson (Viterbo), bringing the score to 3-0.
In the second inning, La Crosse extended their lead significantly. Calli Janik (Mount Mercy) drew an RBI walk, Avary Makarewicz (Eastern Illinois) contributed a two-RBI double, and Rachel Mori added a two-RBI single, pushing the score to 8-0.
The Steam clinched the victory via the mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning. Grace Frechette’s two-RBI single finalized the score at 10-0.
With this win, the La Crosse Steam improved their record to 4-10, while the Minot Honeybees fell to 3-12. The Steam will next travel to Madison to face the Night Mares, with the first pitch scheduled for 12:35 p.m.
