LA CROSSE, WI – The La Crosse Steam were defeated by the Madison Night Mares with a final score of 7-2 at Copeland Park, witnessed by 607 fans.
La Crosse starter Alexis Watson (Viterbo) pitched 2.2 innings, conceding 4 runs on 6 hits.
Madison’s starter Andrea Jaskowiak (Iowa) delivered a strong performance, pitching 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, and striking out 5 batters.
The Night Mares took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning with a double from Hilary Blomberg (Wisconsin-Madison).
The Steam responded in the bottom of the 1st with an RBI single from Grace Frechette (St. Cloud State), narrowing the score to 2-1.
Madison extended their lead in the top of the 2nd inning, adding 3 runs. Chloe Wamboldt (Rock Valley) scored on an error, Danielle Lucey (Wisconsin) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Carly Oliver (Cumberlands) hit an RBI single to left field, making it 5-1.
In the bottom of the 4th, the Steam added a run as Rachel Mori (William Peace) scored on a wild pitch.
The Night Mares further increased their lead in the top of the 6th with an RBI single from Haley Remington (Wisconsin-Parkside), bringing the score to 6-2.
Hailey Blomberg sealed the victory for Madison with a solo home run in the top of the 7th, concluding the game at 7-2.
With this loss, the Steam’s record falls to 12-22, while the Night Mares improve to 23-13. The Steam will travel to Minot on Tuesday for a doubleheader against the Honeybees, with the first pitch scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
