Ron Sloan Joins Staff as New Pitching Coach

Ron Sloan named as Assistant Coach for the La Crosse Steam

LA CROSSE, WI – Ron Sloan will join the Steam as an assistant coach, team officials announced today.

Sloan states that he is “looking forward to working with the very talented Steam athletes and the opportunity to help them develop to be a better person and athlete”.

Ron Sloan has over 40 years of coaching, including the last 10 seasons in Sparta, Wisconsin. Sloan coached in Rice Lake, Wisconsin from 1980 through 2013. Sloan also coached in Cameron, Wisconsin for four years and was a volunteer assistant coach at UW-Green Bay. He has over 40 years of playing fastpitch softball, including three appearances in the North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) World Series.

Leveraging the 31-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) will be the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League beginning play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024.  The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play.  Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
