Steam Adds Outfield Duo to Roster

Madelyn Birling and Ashlyn Porter Join for 2025

LA CROSSE, WI – The Steam is heading into April strong with the announcement of the powerful outfield duo including Madelyn Birling and Ashlyn Porter.

Birling, a Bryant and Stratton College Outfielder, is in the midst of her sophomore season. The Appleton, WI native finished her freshman season with a batting average of .367. She also recorded a slugging percentage of .547 in the 2024 season. Birling followed her successful freshman season with a summer of softball in Mankato, seeing significant action over the course of the season with the Habaneros.

Porter, a Campbell University Outfielder, is also in the midst of her sophomore season. The Highlands Ranch, CO native has seen action in her first two seasons with the Fighting Camels. Coming out of high school, Porter was the Top Ranked Prospect in Colorado. She also earned the title of the Top Ranked Outfielder in Colorado during her time at Heritage High School in Littleton, CO.

Leveraging the 31-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) will be the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League beginning play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024.  The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play.  Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
