La Crosse Steam Unveils 2026 Schedule

Season #3 Kicks Off on June 10

 

LA CROSSE, WIS. – The countdown to Opening Day of the 2026 Northwoods League Softball season is officially underway! With just six months to go, the La Crosse Steam front office has announced the full schedule for the 2026 season.

The Steam will open their 2026 campaign on Wednesday, June 10, hosting the Wausau Ignite at Copeland Park. The teams will meet again the following night, Thursday, June 11, as La Crosse travels to Wausau for their first road matchup of the year.

Steam fans can look forward to 21 home games across 19 dates at the Shipyard, beginning with the June 10 home opener and concluding with the final regular season home game on Wednesday, July 29. Northwoods League Softball will once again feature postseason play, with playoffs scheduled for the second week of August, closing with the crowning of the next Northwoods League Softball Champion.

The Northwoods League has also announced the addition of the Grand Forks Spitfires, who will join the league for the 2026 season—marking the third year of Northwoods League Softball competition.

New this year, Northwoods League Softball will be having their inaugural All Star Game. Hosted by the Madison Nightmares on Saturday, July 11th, the All Star Game will be comprised of players from La Crosse, Madison, and Eau Claire competing against players from Grand Forks, Minot, and Mankato. Along with the All Star Game, there will be a home run derby and a youth tournament at Warner Park in Madison.

Leveraging the 32-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) is the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League which began play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024.  The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play.  Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
