ROYAL OAK, Mich — After wrapping up his freshman season at Indiana University, pitcher Kellen English ventured to the Northwoods League in a standout way, becoming a consistent reliever for Royal Oak.

His reaction to being told his name was on the 2026 All-Star Roster was reflective of his experience on the mound.

“I was super excited. It’s been a long summer so far, but I’ve been really proud of how I’ve been playing, so it’s cool to get some recognition,” said English.

Appearing in 14 games during the Leprechauns’ first half of the season, English recorded a 1.29 ERA and 21 strikeouts.

A factor that plays into his performance is his height. Standing at 6’9, the pitcher said that being tall creates an element of deception for his opponents.

“It makes the ball look a lot faster out of my hand and there’s a little bit of intimidation too. I think hitters get in the box and I just look ginormous on the mound, and I like to think that gets in their head a little,” said English.

Appearing in the closing innings for the Leprechauns, he has accounted for three saves this season, even amidst high pressure situations. He said that taking on the role that he has will further assist him in his future at Indiana.

“It’s the main reason coaches sent me out here: to get a ton of experience. I got kind of limited innings, you know; I got what I could, I was happy,” said English. “But going out here, I’m getting used to road trips, pitching more than once in a series, and being that back-end, end-of-the-game closer kind of guy.”

Alongside his teammates, Luke Kosko and Oliver Service, English will be playing in the NWL All Star Game on Wednesday July 8th, at the Field of Dreams Movie Site in Dyersville, IA.
