The Royal Oak Leprechauns began in the Irish Hills near Jackson, Michigan, playing for nearly a decade at local fields and at Siena Heights University. As the team grew in popularity and vision, the need for a permanent home became clear.
With the support of New York Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who joined as team president, the Leprechauns had the resources to take a major step forward. After years of planning, they relocated to Royal Oak, Michigan—specifically to Memorial Park at 13 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue.
The move wasn’t easy. It required coordination with the City of Royal Oak and strong support from staff, the board, and fans. But for many within the organization, Royal Oak was already home. It was the right fit for long-term growth.
Memorial Park was selected as the team’s new home, but it needed major renovations. With help from LeMahieu and the city, the Leprechauns transformed the facility—installing new dugouts, fencing, sidewalks, sound equipment, and professional-grade infield turf. A new digital scoreboard in left field, donated by LeMahieu, completed the upgrade.
In 2024, the Leprechauns took another major step by joining the prestigious Northwoods League (NWL), one of the top collegiate summer baseball leagues in the country. The move elevated the team’s competition level and expanded its exposure on a national stage. As part of the NWL, the Leprechauns now host and compete against some of the best college talent in the country, giving fans in Royal Oak a high-caliber baseball experience every summer.
Now in 2025, the Royal Oak Leprechauns are well-established in their new home. The team continues to grow its fanbase and serve as a local hub for baseball and community events. The move marked a turning point—and set the stage for a strong future in Royal Oak.
