4 More Players Added to Woodchucks Roster
Wausau, WIS- The Woodchucks announced the addition of four more players today. Rayne Raven, Albee Weiss and Max Ponzurick will all be joining the Woodchucks for the first time. Kaylor Chafin will be returning to the Woodchucks again this summer.
Rayne Raven is a 6’2 RHP from Tacoma Washington. He has started 10 games this year for the Cal State Northridge Matadors, earning a 5-3 record with an ERA of 2.26 and 64 strikeouts. Prior to his time with the Matadors, Raven played for Western Nevada College and Curtis High School. At Curtis High School he hit for a .500 average and was named to the All-State First Team.
Albee Weiss, a 6’1 catcher for Cal State Northridge from Oak Park, CA, is also set to join the Woodchucks this summer. Weiss has 4 doubles, 3 home runs and 15 RBIs during his freshman campaign. He was the All-County MVP, an All-State Third Team selection in 2014 and hit for a .350 average with 10 home runs.
Sweeney, TX native Kaylor Chafin, a 5’ 10 LHP for Blinn CC, is returning to the Woodchucks after an impressive 2014 season in which he struck out 27 for an ERA of 1.98. Chafin has pitched 67 innings for a 5-4 record, throwing 58 strikeouts for an ERA of 2.96 this year. Chafin was a 3 time all-district pitcher in high school.
Max Ponzurick, a 6’2 infielder from Greensburg, PA is in his freshman campaign at Virginia Tech. Ponzurick is a versatile infielder who can play a variety of positions. Ponzurick was an all-state and all-conference selection and the WPIAL AAA – section 2 preseason co-player of the year during his high school career.
The WISCONSIN WOODCHUCKS Home Opener is Friday, May 29th, one month from today, in the newly renovated Athletic Park with Post Game Fireworks presented by Ministry Health Care. Single game tickets are on sale for the 2015 season.
