Battle Creek, MI – The Wisconsin Woodchucks’ six-game road trip kicked off with a loss at C.O. Brown Stadium as the Battle Creek Bombers defeated the Chucks 5-1 Tuesday night.

Battle Creek scored three runs in the first inning and two runs in the third to snag an early 5-0 lead. The Bombers got a two-RBI single in each frame, the first from Niko Pacheco and the latter from Ryan Budnick.

Kyle Dohy gave up all five runs – although only four of them were earned –  while walking four and allowing four hits in two and two third innings. Kaylor Chafin relieved Dohy and delivered three and a third innings of shutout ball.

The Chucks would not score until the sixth inning. In that frame, Yusuke Akitoshi singled with one out, and Albee Weiss plated him with a ground rule double to left center field, which made it 5-1.

Wisconsin didn’t go down without a fight. The Woodchucks got runners to first and second in the ninth before Battle Creek threw Kaleb McCurry on the mound. McCurry closed the door by retiring Jared Oliva and Ty Black to end the ballgame.

The Woodchucks and Bombers play again tomorrow night at C.O. Brown Stadium before Wisconsin gets a two-game set with the Kalamazoo Growlers.
