Kalamazoo, MI – Dylan Dwyer gave up just one run and two hits and in seven innings Thursday to carry the Wisconsin Woodchucks to a 4-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Growlers at Homer Stryker Field.

Zach Stone relieved Dwyer, who earned the victory, in the eighth and delivered two innings of shutout ball. Stone allowed just one hit and struck out one to receive the save.

Kalamazoo did score first though. The Growlers first hitter of the ballgame, Kory Brown, led off with a home run down the left field line.

Wisconsin knotted the game at 1-1 by scoring in the third. Mason Fishback singled and moved from first to third off a fielder’s choice and past ball. Then, Albee Weiss hit an RBI single to tie the contest.

The Chucks would not lead until the seventh. Yusuke Akitoshi led off the frame with a solo bomb over the left field fence to give Wisconsin a 2-1 edge.

Wisconsin added two insurance runs in the ninth to seal the victory and move to 11-19 on the season. The Chucks play the Growlers again tomorrow night before heading to La Crosse.
