La Crosse, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks held a lead for five innings Sunday, but the La Crosse Loggers scored three runs in the eighth to defeat the Chucks 5-4 at Copeland Park.

The Woodchucks put up four runs in the third inning. Albee Weiss hit a two-run blast to left field, scoring LJ Hatch, and Ramsey Romano plated both Jared Oliva and Taylor Kohlwey with a two-RBI single later in the frame.

La Crosse answered with one run in the third and another run in the fourth. Ronnie Gideon hit a long home run to left center field for the Loggers’ first run in the ballgame.

Wisconsin was on their way to victory until the eighth. The Loggers scored three runs in the frame behind three hits, highlighted by a 2-RBI double from Alex Merritt.

Jordan Bischel used five different arms in the loss. Jared Skolnicki, Reagan Biechler, Taylor Goshen, Anthony Badalucco and Robert Zeigler allowed a combined five runs and seven hits in the contest.

The Woodchucks have their first scheduled day off of the season tomorrow, and they return to action Tuesday in a doubleheader with Green Bay at Athletic Park.
