Wausau, WIS- The Wisconsin Woodchucks were swept in a doubleheader with the Green Bay Bullfrogs Tuesday at Athletic Park after the Bullfrogs took the late game 6-5, despite a grand slam from Ty Black.
After scoring two runs in the first inning of the day game, Green Bay jumped ahead of Wisconsin again in the nightcap as well. The Bullfrogs scored three runs in the first on four hits and one run in the second on a pair of singles.
The Woodchucks scored in the first inning too. Max Ponzurick and Albee Weiss both walked to start the frame, and Connor Heady scored Ponzurick with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Green Bay added two more runs in the third. Rob Paller doubled in Ty Blankmeyer, and Paller would score on a fielder’s choice to make it a 6-1 Bullfrog lead.
Wisconsin got back in the game in the sixth. Connor Heady led off with a double. Then, Mason Fishback was hit by a pitch and Keenan Eaton walked to load the bases for Ty Black. Black delivered with a grand slam down the left field line, cutting the deficit to 6-5.
The Woodchucks got a runner to second base in both the eighth and ninth innings, but they’d be stranded there. Wisconsin left a total of 11 runners on the basepaths.
The Woodchucks also lost the first game in the doubleheader by a score of 4-0. The loss concludes the first half of the Northwoods League season, and tomorrow Wisconsin travels to Mequon to kick off the second half against the Lakeshore Chinooks at Kapco Park.
