Dylan Dwyer Finds Groove, Chucks Shut Out Growlers Again

Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks shut out the Kalamazoo Growlers for the second game in a row, and 24th inning in a row, in a 5-0 victory at Athletic Park Thursday night.

Dylan Dwyer earned his fourth victory of the season with seven innings of scoreless ball. He gave up just three hits and one walk while striking out five. Kevin Bolder and Connor Kelly each pitched one inning in relief, and they each struck out two batters.

Wisconsin got the scoring started with two runs in the first. Ty Black reached on an error, advanced to second on an error in the following at-bat and then scored on a double from Yusuke Akitoshi. Akitoshi advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mason Fishback.

The Woodchucks extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning on another pair of errors. Jared Oliva singled, stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by Alex Gosser. Oliva proceeded to score on a grounder from Mason Fishback, which was misplayed, allowing Fishback to reach. He would be stranded at first base though.

Wisconsin insured victory in the seventh inning. Ryan Day and Ty Black both scored on a single from Jared Oliva, who had two hits, two RBI’s, two stolen bases and a run scored in the contest.

The Woodchucks and Growlers face-off again tomorrow at Athletic Park at 7:05 p.m. before the Chucks host the Thunder Bay Border Cats Saturday and Sunday.
