Green Bay, WIS – Albee Weiss crushed his 13th home run of the season, but the Wisconsin Woodchucks lost 5-4 in the first game of a doubleheader with the Green Bay Bullfrogs at Joannes Stadium.
Jared Helmich started for the Woodchucks and threw just five pitches before he was replaced by Trevor Dudar. Dudar went four and two third innings with three runs allowed on eight hits. The Bullfrogs’ one run scored in the first was credited to Helmich, and Green Bay led 4-0 going to the sixth.
The Woodchucks cracked the scoreboard in the sixth. Ty Black walked to start the frame, and Yusuke Akitoshi singled. Weiss came up next and blasted a three-run homer off the scoreboard in left field to cut the Bullfrog edge to 4-3.
Green Bay extended their lead to 5-3 with an insurance run in the eighth, which proved to be crucial. Wisconsin rallied in the ninth with Taylor Kohlwey crossing home on a dropped third strike, but the Chucks stranded men on first and second as Keenan Eaton struck out to end the game.
The Woodchucks and Bullfrogs will finish the doubleheader tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Joannes Stadium.
