Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks went to the ninth inning with a 4-3 edge at Athletic Park Thursday, but the Kenosha Kingfish rallied with five runs in the ninth to win 8-4.

Yusuke Akitoshi started the scoring with a solo shot – his fourth home run of the season – down the right field line to put the Chucks ahead 1-0 in the first inning.

Kenosha took the lead in the third inning. With two outs, Alex Borglin and Micah Coffey both walked. Then, Eric Filia hit a three-run homer off the scoreboard in right center field.

The Woodchucks answered in the bottom of the inning. Alex Cordova singled to start the frame before Tanner Gragg ripped a two-run homer over the left field wall.

After a couple of scoreless inning, Wisconsin took the lead in the sixth. Akitohsi walked and Albee Weiss singled to open the frame. Akitoshi then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Runners were at the corners with one down when Taylor Kohlwey hit a ground ball up the middle. It was bobbled by Coffey, so everyone was safe and Akitoshi scored to make it 4-3.

Wisconsin held that edge until the ninth. Kenosha scored five runs in the ninth off four walks and two hits, including a two-run home run from Jason Scholl.

Simon Mathews started for the Woodchucks and threw four and one third innings with just one earned run. Kevin Bolder replaced him in the fifth and went three and two third innings with no runs allowed, three hits and two strikeouts.

The Woodchucks and Kingfish face off again tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Athletic Park.
