Madison, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks and Madison Mallards combined for a trio of solo home runs in a 6-1 loss for the Woodchucks at Warner Park Saturday.
The Woodchucks got their first run via the long ball. Albee Weiss crushed a solo home run – his 14th of the season – to lead off the second inning.
Madison responded with a home run of their own in the fourth. Anthony Gonsolin hit a solo shot down the left field line to tie the game at 1-1. The Mallards took a 3-1 lead with two runs on three hits and one error in the fifth inning.
Leading off in the sixth inning, Jean Ramirez hit the third solo home run of the evening. Madison got two more runs in the inning on two more hits, including a double from Cameron Frost, and they led 6-1 after the frame.
The Mallards almost scored again in the eighth. Ro Coleman was at second base with two down when Bryce Carter singled to right field. Madison sent Coleman home, but Taylor Kohlwey threw a perfect strike to the plate and Albee Weiss tagged out Coleman to end the inning.
Jared Skolnicki started for the Chucks and went seven innings with eight hits and four earned runs. He gave up just one walk and took the loss for Wisconsin.
With the loss, the Chucks move to 10-18 on the second half. The Woodchucks close out the series against the Mallards tomorrow at Athletic Park at 5:05 p.m.
