Wausau, WIS – Ryan Day hit a grand slam, and the Wisconsin Woodchucks’ bullpen threw five innings of scoreless ball in a 7-4 win over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at Athletic Park Wednesday.

Wisconsin Rapids went up 2-0 with a pair of runs in the third inning. They got back-to-back singles from brothers Beau and Bryce Jordan, who both came around to score.

Mason Fishback cut the lead in half with a solo blast, his fourth home run of the season, in the third inning. However, the Rafters answered with two runs in the fourth on two hits and two walks.

The Woodchucks responded in a huge way in the bottom of the fourth. Albee Weiss doubled and Troy Traxler walked before Fishback singled to left field, scoring Weiss. Then, Owen Taylor walked to load the bases for Ryan Day, and Day belted a grand slam to put the Chucks up 6-4.

Jared Oliva added some insurance from the Chucks in the eighth. He singled, Traxler singled and then Oliva scored on a past ball to extend the lead to 7-4.

The Woodchucks got five tremendous innings of relief pitching, which were all scoreless, in the victory. Jameson Lavery earned the victory through three innings of work with two hits, no walks and three strikeouts. Robert Zeigler got a two-inning save, which included one strikeout.

The Lakeshore Chinooks travel to Athletic Park tomorrow to take on the Woodchucks at 7:05 p.m. in the first game of a two-game series.
