Wausau, WIS – The Woodchucks came into tonight’s game back at Athletic Park looking to get back in the win column as they opened up a two game set with the Madison Mallards.

 

After the Mallards took to a 2-0 lead, the Chucks got their first run of the game in the bottom of the 6thinning on a groundball from left fielder TJ Raguse. The run scored from a Mallards error with the bases loaded to make it 2-1.

 

Chucks Starter Brent Headrick pitched a great ballgame going six innings allowing just two runs and striking out eight keeping the team in the game.

 

In the bottom of the 7thinning, shortstop Nick Loftin got his first run driven in of the season as he ripped an RBI double to right to tie the game at two.

 

The Mallards got a big two run shot from Jake Randa in the top of the 8thinning to give the team a 4-2 lead. The Mallards added one in the 9thand held on for the 5-2 win.

 

 

 

Top Performers

 

In his fourth game as a Woodchuck, shortstop Nick Loftin had nice night at the plate with a big RBI double to tie the game at 2-2 in the 7thinning. He also reached base safely twice with a walk.

 

Chucks starter Brent Headrick continued to keep dealing on the mound going six innings allowing only two runs and striking out eight. Headrick now has an impressive 28 strikeouts on the season.

 

Woodchucks catcher Javier Valdes and third basemen Michael Fernandez each had two hit nights helping the Chucks offense get going.
