Woodchucks Drop Close Game to Growlers

Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks dropped a 5-3 decision to the Kalamazoo Growlers at Athletic Park on Thursday evening, but still are only one game out of first in the second half standings in the South Division of the Northwoods League.

The Growlers took a 1-0 lead by plating an unearned run in the top of the second inning.  The Woodchucks tied the game at 1-1 when Isaac Quinones sent the first pitch of the bottom of the third over the left field wall for a home run.

Kalamazoo regained the lead in the the fifth at 2-1 with another unearned run.  The Woodchucks tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth as Jaren Shelby scored on a passed ball.

Three consecutive doubles to start the seventh led to a three-run seventh and a 5-2 advantage for the Growlers.  The Woodchucks got within two at 5-3 in the eighth as Shelby scored on a wild pitch.

 

Top Performers

Starting pitcher Alex Stodola threw 4 2/3 innings, striking out nine while allowing only three hits and two unearned runs.  Trey Horton struck out three in his three innings of scoreless relief.

Shelby scored two runs, while Quinones (home run) and Zach DeLoach (double) had extra base hits for the Chucks.
