Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks dropped tonight’s game 3-1 to the Kalamazoo Growlers at Athletic Park to fall to 9-7 in the second half of the Northwoods League season.

The Growlers got on the board first with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.  Kalamazoo added two runs in the sixth to build a 3-0 lead.

The Woodchucks trimmed the Kalamazoo lead to 3-1 in the eighth.  Javier Valdes doubled and came around to score on a triple from Zach DeLoach.

Mike Ferri and Tommy Duddleston reached base to start the ninth inning, but neither were able to come around to score.

 

Top Performers

Woodchucks’ starter Mason Cole struck out five and gave up only one run in five innings.  Everett Hurst pitched two innings of scoreless relief and struck out four.  DJ Moreland struck out two while pitching a scoreless ninth.

Valdes was 2-5 with a double and run scored.  Reese Alexiades reached base on all four of his plate appearances, walking three times and getting hit by a pitch.

The Wisconsin Woodchucks travel to Joannes Stadium in Green Bay on Saturday July 21th to face the Bullfrogs. First pitch is at 6:35.   The team returns home on Thursday, July 26th to take the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders on Marshfield Clinic Children’s Hospital Night. The team will be wearing fan designed jerseys that will be auctioned off to raise money for the Marshfield Children’s Hospital
