The Colorado Rockies had their pick of talent from the 2017 draft with names including Kyle Wright, Jake Burger, and other top MLB prospects. With a strong prospect class in 2017, it seems almost impossible that not one, but two former Wisconsin Woodchucks players would both be drafted- and within five rounds of each other.

One of those draft picks, Reagan Biechler made his way up to the Northwoods Leagues in 2015. Biechler performed at Wichita State where he finished his senior season with 35 relief appearances and a team-best 2.84 ERA. He was a monster on the mound as opponents batted just .180 against him all that year. Biechler was a key component of the Woodchucks Bullpen when he came to Wisconsin in 2015. He was a frequent option for Wisconsin and appeared in 16 games throughout the summer. He finished his summer season with a 1-3 record and 4.24 ERA in just over 29 innings. As a key member of the bullpen in 2015 in the Northwoods League and in 2016 at Wichita, he was noticed and drafted by the Rockies in 2017

Biechler has managed to snag another Grand Junction Rockies roster spot going into the 2018 season despite 2017 numbers that were lacking in some respects. He finished the season with one loss and an ERA of 6.30. He did have decent stats looking at the results of the ten games he played in his rookie 2017 season. He had just two walks on the season and a total of ten strikeouts- bringing his walks and hits per inning to 1.10. His 2018 stats have shown some improvement since the 2017 season. He has one win and a ERA of 3.00. He has pitched 18 innings and has had 15 strikeouts.

Reagan Biechler has a raw talent that the Woodchucks recognized in him and that he developed over his college years. The Woodchucks wish him the best of luck in his career in Colorado and wherever his continuing developing talent may take him.
