Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks hosted the Madison Mallards in their home opener tonight after an undefeated road trip to start the season. Both teams entered the matchup with a perfect 4-0 record. They put together a late-inning rally that could not quite pull off a victory and ended up falling 4-2.

 

The Mallards got off to an early lead in the first two innings and got ahead by 3-0. The Woodchucks got on the board in the fifth inning after a double by Kaeber Rog, a single from Javier Rosario, and a sacrifice fly from Nolan Soliveres to earn the first ‘Chucks run. Brandon Seltzer hit a sacrifice fly to score a man in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded as a result. The Woodchucks could not capitalize and fell 4-2.

Brandon Seltzer had two hits and an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull the Woodchucks within two runs.

 

Nolan Soliveres was responsible for the Woodchucks first run. He hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Kaeber Rog.

The Wisconsin Woodchucks will continue their first homestand of the season at Athletic Park against the Madison Mallards on Sunday, June 2nd. First pitch is at 3:05 PM with gates opening one hour before then. This will be the first Woody’s Reading Club Redemption Night, presented by Ruder Ware and Culver’s Restaurant.
