Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks have proven themselves to be road warriors. They traveled to Fond du Lac to beat the Dock Spiders on their own turf by a score of 5-2. The Woodchucks are now 7-2 on the road with an 8-5 overall record.

 

Fond du Lac was the first to score in the first inning, making it a 1-0 game. The Woodchucks remained down by one run until the fifth inning when first baseman Zach Klapak hit a two-run scoring RBI single. Klapak was soon brought home by his teammate Javier Rosario who hit an RBI single that gave the Woodchucks a 3-1 lead.

 

The Woodchucks then added one more run in the sixth inning to give them a 4-1 lead when shortstop Byron Murray hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Brandon Seltzer from third base.

 

Both teams managed to score a run in the seventh inning. The Woodchucks lead things off in the top half of the inning with an RBI single from third baseman Adam Frank that scored Kaeber Rog. This gave the Woodchucks a 5-1 lead. Fond du Lac responded with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored one run. The score was then 5-2 with the Woodchucks still leading.

 

The Woodchucks never let go of that 5-2 lead after Adelphi University relief pitcher Tom Ambrosino pitched a three-up, three-down ninth inning to seal the win for the Woodchucks.

 

Top Performers

 

First baseman Zach Klapak got things going for the Woodchucks with a two-run scoring RBI single in the fifth inning that gave the Woodchucks their first lead of the game. Since that hit, the ‘Chucks never let go of that lead. Klapak also walked, scored a run, and finished the day 1-2.

 

Catcher Javier Rosario went 2-4 with a walk, stolen base, and an RBI single that gave the ‘Chucks a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning.

 

Center fielder Brandon Seltzer led the Woodchucks with three hits out of his four at-bats. He scored once for the Woodchucks. Seltzer has now represented 10 of the Woodchucks runs this season, tying the team lead with Kenny Rodriguez.

 

Relief pitcher Tom Ambrosino came on to close out the game in the ninth inning. He pitched the Dock Spiders into a double play and then putout the final batter with a flyout to center field. His three-up, three-down appearance sealed the win for the Woodchucks.

The Wisconsin Woodchucks will begin a three-game homestand at Athletic Park tomorrow on Monday, June 10th. The Woodchucks will first face off against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders at 6:35 PM. Gates open at 5:35 PM with the first 250 fans receiving a free Woodchucks baseball hat. Tuesday, June 11 will be a double-header against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. After playing in Wisconsin Rapids at 11:35 AM, the teams will face off in Wausau to complete the twin-bill with a 6:35 PM game start. It will be Wausau Youth Baseball and Softball Night. The homestand will then round out on Wednesday, June 12 with a visit from everyone’s favorite henchmen! The Minions will visit Athletic Park when the Woodchucks take on Green Bay at 6:35 PM.
