Woodchucks Break Rivets Four-Game Win Streak

ROCKFORD, Ill. – In the first visit to Rivets Stadium since 2021, Wausau was able to pick up a 7-4 win to open the set Thursday night.

Utilizing two run innings in the first, third and seventh was what put Wausau (9-8/29-23) on top.

With the game tied up at two a piece in the third, Jake Baker (Kansas) drove in the two runs of that inning with a two-RBI single.

Brent Widder (Evansville) drove in the one run in the fourth with an RBI double that hit off the wall in center field.

Rockford (11-8/31-22) would make the game a one-run contest in the sixth with two runs scored, but the aforementioned two in the seventh for Wausau set them above the rest of the way.

If you go back to 2021 as well, that’s now back-to-back wins at Rivets Stadium.

Key Moments:

Widder had a multi-hit game, going 2/4 with the mentioned RBI double and a walk.

Colin Brueggemann (Oklahoma State) hit his 12th double of the season – a seventh inning RBI double driving in the then sixth run.

Christian Mitchelle (Cincinnati) made his first appearance on the mound this summer in the ninth with two outs and got the one out he was asked to get – forcing a lineout.

Up Next:

Game two in Rockford, as Wausau will go for the sweep Friday, July 21 with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
