Woodchucks Fall to 2-3 at Lakeshore
MEQUON, Wis. – A late lead of 8-6 was not enough to break a three-game losing streak for Wausau Saturday night at Kapco Park.
With the aforementioned lead in the eighth, Lakeshore (23-35/9-15) hit an RBI sac fly to cut the lead by one, then the eighth error of the game for Wausau allowed both the eighth and winning ninth runs to score. If Wausau was able to complete the play they would have led 8-7 into the final inning.
The Woodchucks (29-27/9-12) would get two base runners in the ninth, but weren’t able to bring either across and would fall 9-8.
Eight errors are the most committed by Wausau in a game this season, and matched Saturday’s hit total for the team.
Key Moments:
Wausau got on the board early with four runs in the first, highlighted by a Drew Berkland (Minnesota) single. Also hitting RBI singles in the game were Christian Mitchelle (Cincinnati), Colin Brueggemann (Oklahoma State) and Jake Baker (Kansas).
Dwight Allen (Georgia) made his debut for Wausau this summer and performed nicely, going 2/3 with a double, two walks, two runs and a stolen base.
