Wausau, WIS- The Wisconsin Woodchucks lost 5-0 to the Green Bay Bullfrogs in the second game of a doubleheader Monday, giving the Bullfrogs a sweep at Athletic Park after Green Bay took the first game 3-0.
Simon Mathews had a quality start in the first game and kept the Woodchucks in a tight contest. Mathews gave up just two earned runs and didn’t walk anyone in six innings on the bump while striking out three.
Wisconsin had five hits in the early seven-inning contest, including an LJ Hatch double in the final frame. However, they could not cross any runs and dropped the game 3-0.
The Chucks fell behind early in the late game as well. Green Bay scored one run in the first inning and added another in the third. LJ Hatch kept another run from scoring in the third by gunning down Paul Jacobson at home on a single by Connor Ross.
Green Bay crossed three more runs in the sixth inning, coming on an intentional walk, a hit by pitch, a base on balls, an error and a pair of singles. The Chucks eventually got out of the frame on a ground ball double play.
Wisconsin got two runners on in the seventh off back-to-back singles from Jared Oliva and LJ Hatch, but the rally ended as Ty Black struck out to end the doubleheader.
The Chucks and Bullfrogs play again tomorrow in Green Bay at 7:05 p.m.
