Wausau, WIS – The Kenosha Kingfish recorded 17 hits en route to a 17-5 victory over the Wisconsin Woodchucks at Athletic Park Friday night.
The Woodchucks and Kingfish each scored one run in the first inning. Wisconsin got a leadoff double from Ty Black, who then advanced on back-to-back groundouts, the latter of which recorded an RBI for Yusuke Akitohsi.
Kenosha put together a big third inning. The Kingfish scored four runs on two errors and three hits, including a two-RBI single from Eric Filia. Devin Skapura – who started for the Chucks – had to exit the game after the inning because he threw 41 pitches in the frame.
The Kingfish really expanded their lead in the sixth. Three walks and three hits led to five runs, and John Brodner’s three-RBI triple was the highlight of the frame. Through five and a half innings, Kenosha was up 10-1.
Wisconsin’s offense came alive in the bottom of the sixth. The inning started with back-to-back-to-back walks. The next two batters were retired, but Albee Weiss’s groundout brought a run home. Mason Fishback then hit a two-RBI bloop single to right field. Keenan Eaton singled, and Troy Traxler doubled Fishback home, making it 10-5.
Kenosha padded their lead with one run in the seventh, three runs in the eighth and three runs in the ninth, which pushed their edge to 17-5.
