Some familiar faces will be seen in the dugout of Wade Stadium as two former Huskies will pack their bags and head to Duluth for another summer. INF Terrin Vavra and RHP Ryan Tapani both return to the Duluth Huskies after participating in the 2015 season.

Terrin Vavra, a Menomonie, Wisconsin native, is competing in his first season with the Golden Gophers. Vavra has batted .393 in 16 games (14 starts) with 24 hits and 10 RBIs. His 13 runs ranks second highest on the team. Terrin is son of Minnesota Twins bench coach Joe Vavra and brother of Northwoods League alumni Tanner (Alexandria Beetles) and Trey (Duluth Huskies) who are both currently in the Twins’ minor league system.

Before his time with the Gophers, Terrin impressed many at Menomonie High School and with the Duluth Huskies. Vavra ended his senior year in 2015 as the Big Rivers Conference Player of the Year, Northwest District Player of the Year, and First-Team All-State selection. He then joined the Huskies mid-season and collected 14 hits and 5 RBIs over 14 games.

Ryan Tapani, a Wayzata, Minnesota native, is currently attending Creighton University. Ryan, son of former major league pitcher Kevin Tapani, appeared in 10 games in 2015 for the Duluth Huskies while recording 3 wins and posting a 2.97 ERA. Tapani also struck out 25 batters over 33.1 innings of work.

The Huskies open the 2016 season on the road and return to Wade Stadium on Saturday, June 4th for their home opener against the Mankato MoonDogs.
