Left-handed hitting Aaron Gates (Pepperdine) connected on a 2-0 pitch from Chris Marlowe with two outs and the Loggers trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning to give La Crosse a 5-4 victory over Thunder Bay. Gates pulled the ball deep over the wall in right-center to thrill the crowd of 3,223. Gates, the DH in the game, was 2-for-5 and scored two runs to go with his three RBI.
