The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of catcher Jeremy Lucas to their roster for the 2011 season. Lucas, who played with Waterloo last year, is currently a sophomore at Indiana State University. Lucas is the second player to return to the Bucks from the 2010 squad, joining University of Iowa infielder Andrew Ewing.
In 2010, Lucas hit .283 for the Bucks with 39 hits, including eight doubles and one home run. In 138 at-bats he accumulated 21 RBI. Lucas hit .500 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks, with nine hits and four doubles.
The West Terre Haute, Indiana native was named a second team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection for the Sycamores in 2009. Starting 45 games, Lucas hit .326 with 13 doubles, 24 RBI, and 40 runs scored. The 6’1″, 205-pounder led the team with 255 putouts and was struck out only 17 times in 175 at-bats.
He averaged .490 as a senior in high school with 46 RBI and was selected in the 35th round by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft.
The Bucks will open the 2011 season on the road at the Battle Creek Bombers on June 1.
