Meidroth and Peltier earn season-ending honors from the Northwoods League

The Kokomo Jackrabbits have been on a roll lately, notching the second-best record in the league in the second half. It should come as no surprise, then, that on Friday morning they picked up a few more wins before lunch.

Chase Meidroth and Tommy Peltier were named to the Northwoods League Postseason All-Star Team in a league announcement Friday morning. Meidroth earned the honor at third base and Peltier as a relief pitcher.

Meidroth has been one of the league’s most dangerous hitters since arriving in Kokomo on June 9. He is hitting .345 on the season with 43 RBI and 37 walks, leading the team in all three categories. Meidroth is sixth in the league in hitting, tenth in RBI, and fifth in on-base percentage (.465) heading into the league’s final series. The sophomore from the University of San Diego was named to the All-Star Team at third base, though he’s also played second base and shortstop this season.

Peltier, the Jackrabbits’ closer for much of the season, leads the league with ten saves. He posted a 2.55 ERA in a team-leading 21 appearances, striking out 29 batters in 23 innings pitched. The colorful Peltier, a sophomore from Canisius University, is also sixth in the league in appearances.

The Jackrabbits, who clinched a playoff spot with a win at home on Tuesday, won Thursday night in Battle Creek to capture the Great Lakes Division East second-half title. Kokomo can secure home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs with a win or a Traverse City loss in either of the last two games of the season.

The first round of the playoffs will pit the Jackrabbits against the Traverse City Pit Spitters, winners of the Great Lakes Division East in the first half. The series will open with Game 1 on Sunday, then shift sites for Game 2 on Monday. If a Game 3 is necessary, it will be played on Tuesday.

The winner of the series will advance to the one-game Great Lakes Division championship on Wednesday. The Northwoods League Championship is scheduled for either Thursday or Friday, depending on travel needs.
