Upper Iowa Switch Hitter Next to Join the Steam
Utility Player Adds Depth and Experience
LA CROSSE, WIS. – As the college softball season is now well underway, the La Crosse Steam roster continues to take shape with the addition of their next summer standout. Joining the team from Upper Iowa University is versatile defender Reagon Proud, who brings experience at second base, shortstop, and around the outfield.
Proud, a sophomore with the Peacocks, brings her talents to the banks of the Black River after spending the 2025 Northwoods League Softball season with the Wausau Ignite. She appeared in 34 games, totaling 12 runs batted in to go along with a stellar. 943 fielding percentage across the diamond.
A graduate of Lourdes Academy in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Proud has gotten off to a quick start in 2026. Through her first 84 plate appearances, she has reached base at a .329 clip, while recording 5 extra base hits. Proud looks to build upon this early success this season with a strong showing at Copeland Park this summer.
Speaking of Copeland: Copeland Park is calling! The Steam begin their 2026 campaign on Wednesday, June 10 at home, welcoming the Mankato Habaneros to La Crosse for Opening Night. Leveraging the 32-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) is the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League which began play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024. The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play. Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
