
Second Mango Set to Join The Steam
Talented Freshman Comes to The Midwest After Successful Campaign
LA CROSSE, WIS. – As the weather gets warmer, and the softball season continues gets closer, the La Crosse Steam are excited to announce the next addition to the roster. Joining the Steam from John Melvin Christian College in Winter Park, Florida, is freshman pitcher and first baseman, Preslynn Baker.
Baker, a native of Okeechobee, Florida, has put together an outstanding season in the circle, establishing herself as a dependable and effective arm. Over 122.1 innings pitched, she has posted a 3.23 ERA while making 21 starts and recording 127 strikeouts. Her performance played a key role in leading the Mangos to a Gulf Atlantic Athletic Conference championship, where she was also recognized as the league’s MVP.
She has been just as impactful at the plate, showcasing her ability as a true two-way contributor. In 85 at-bats, Baker tallied 11 extra-base hits, including three home runs, and drove in 24 runs. With a .329 batting average and a .553 slugging percentage, she has demonstrated both consistency and power offensively, complementing her steady presence in the circle.
The wait for summer softball is nearly over at Copeland Park. The La Crosse Steam begin their 2026 season on Wednesday, June 10, welcoming the Mankato Habaneros to town for Opening Night. Tickets are available now, including season ticket packages, group outings, and flexible plans. Leveraging the 32-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) is the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League which began play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024. The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play. Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
