The offense was clicking on all cylinders once again Tuesday as the Lakeshore Chinooks defeated the host Green Bay Bullfrogs 11-3 from Joannes Stadium.
Chris Manning Valparaiso University) jump started the offensive charge from the leadoff spot going 4 for 5 with three runs scored, three RBIs, a double, and a stolen base.
For his efforts, Manning was rewarded with the Northwoods League’s "Player of the Night" honor.
Lakeshore got on the board first in the second inning on double to left-center gap by Aaron Machbitz (South Dakota State) scoring Ryan Solberg (UW-Milwaukee)
Green Bay took the lead in the third when Trib Martin homered off of Chinook starter Nat Hoffman (Madison Area Technical College) to make it 3-1 Green Bay after 3.
Lakeshore took the lead in the fifth, scoring three times, highlighted by a two RBI double from Brant Valach (Eastern Illinois University) They added on with back-to-back two-out doubles in the sixth by Chris Manning and Sawyer Polen (Kent State University) extending the lead to three.
The Chinooks took advantage of three Bullfrog errors scoring four unearned runs in the eighth and ninth innings en route to the win.
Lakeshore pounded out 15 more hits on the night. Manning’s big night was supported by three hits from Machbitz two apiece from Valach and Poland.
Luke Lowery (Southern Mississippi) was outstanding in relief completing the final six innings. He allowed just two hits to shut down the Bullfrog offense.
The win moves the Chinooks into sole possession of first place in the Northwoods League Southern Division
