The Lakeshore Chinooks wrapped up a three game series with the Green Bay Bullfrogs on Monday night at Kapco Park. Both teams had many chances to score in the opening innings but could not bring home the first run of the game until the top of the 6th inning on an error. The Bullfrogs took control in the top of the 8th inning pushing the score to 4-0 and potentially spoiling the Chinooks chances at the first half crown.

In the top of the 4th inning the Bullfrogs had the bases loaded and one out looking to bust the game open, but the Chinooks buckled down and got out of the jam keeping the score tied 0-0.

The Bullfrogs struck in the top of the 6th inning. After a lead-off double, Green Bay runner stole third base and advanced home on a wild throw making the score 1-0.

The Chinooks found themselves in trouble in the top of the 7th inning. The Bullfrogs loaded the bases for the second time of the night, but strong pitching from Dan Sayles (Sacramento City) and support from the Chinooks defense kept the score at 1-0.

With two outs in the top of the 8th inning, the Bullfrogs loaded the bases once again looking to add more runs to their 1-0 lead. With the count full, Green Bay hitter lined what looked to be the third out of the inning but the ball was lost in the lights resulting in Green Bay to clear the bases which led to a 4-0 final.

Manager Eddy Morgan stated, “Baseballs a cruel game if you let it, we are in one of those stretches where we are having a tough time scoring runs.” Lakeshore has had their ups and downs throughout the season, “We will bounce back.” Lakeshore had many opportunities to put runs on the board, but stranding runners early in the game made it hard to come out on top. The Chinooks are now 1 ½ back in the South Division with two games left.

Chinooks starter Eric Hanhold (Florida) went 5 strong innings giving up no runs on three hits adding two strikeouts.

The Chinooks (19-13) head to Eau Claire for a two-game set to wrap up the first half of the season. The Chinooks return to Kapco Park on Monday, July 8th to take on the La Crosse Loggers. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive Pint Glass Giveaway presented by Jose’s Blue Sombrero. Following Monday’s game, fans will have the opportunity to participate in VIP Autograph Mondays. The Chinook players that will be signing will be announced at a later date.
