Mequon, WI – Lakeshore (3-1) was at Moonlight Graham Field for the first time this season and opened with the Madison Mallards (2-2) out of Wisconsin.
The teams traded pairs of runs back-and-forth through the first two innings with the Mallards coming out on top 4-2.
After an early error in the first, the Mallards jumped out to a lead off the bat of first baseman, Blake Guerin who sent a pitch over the wall in right.
In the Chinooks half, Roessler would single to the Madison third baseman before making an error allowing Deboskie to score after quickly making it to second on a walk and stolen base, tying it at 2-2.
An inning-starting triple followed by two walks loaded the bases for the Mallards who would take the lead back on a past ball and then pushed it to two on a Hamilton sacrifice fly.
The Chinooks would get those runs back, and more, in their half of the fourth inning after a throwing error extended the inning. Deboskie, with two walks and two stolen bases, drilled a ball into center field that would get down for a base hit and mark his ninth RBI on the season. After loading the bases, a 3-2 count pitch clock violation, and a hit batter would give Lakeshore the lead for the first time in the game, 5-4.
In the top of the fifth, the Mallards would strike back on a ball to the back of Caleb Karll with the bases loaded.
Two innings later, they would take the lead again after a communication miscue gave Madison another out in the inning and pushed across Guerin. In the top of the 8th Hamilton added another sacrafice fly to grow their lead, 7-5 which would be enough to hold out and secure their third win of the season.
Josh Outlaw continued his offensive attack, collecting his second 3-hit game in as many days. He had this to say about his approach, “I am just looking for a fastball to hit, laying off stuff out of the zone… and looking fastball early in the count to drive and get some backspin on it.” He said the best transition about going from Parkland College right into the Northwoods League is the fans, thanking them for their support and expressing how fun it is to be surrounded by the energy.
Following the second loss when asked how the team would bounce back Deboskie has “no doubts” that they will do so saying, “it’s a really big season and I’m really confident in this ball club, we have a lot of talent on this team.” Also adding, they would have a good showing for the home crowd when they get back.
The next Chinooks home game is Sunday, June 2nd with first pitch set for 1:05 pm as they welcome the Rafters of Wisconsin Rapids to town for a two game series.
