Big 5th Gives Green Bay 3-1 Edge Over Chinooks

The Lakeshore Chinooks took on the Green Bay Bullfrogs on a gusty Sunday at Kapco Park. All Green Bay needed was their three run 5th inning to give them the edge over the Chinooks. The Bullfrogs also had strong pitching making it hard for the Chinooks to stir-up hits and runs.

Green Bay started the scoring in the top of the 5th inning. With runners on first and third and two outs, a passed ball got away just enough for the Bullfrogs to capitalize making the score 1-0. The following batter ripped an RBI single to right field to bring in the second run of the night. Green Bay continued their big 5th inning with another single and Chinook error resulting in the final run of the inning making the score 3-0.

The Chinooks struck in the bottom of the 7th inning. With two outs in the inning, Aaron Machbitz (South Dakota State) launched an RBI double to right-center bringing home John Norwood (Vanderbilt) from first base making the score 3-1.

Lakeshore needed two runs in the bottom of the 9th inning. A lead-off single by Mike Hollenbeck (Illinois State) and a two out walk by Forrest Chadwick (Southern Maine) put two runners on. With an energized crowd, the Bullfrog pitcher balked bringing the runners to second and third. Green Bay buckled down and recorded the final out of the night resulting in a 3-1 win for the Bullfrogs.

Chinooks starter Donnie Hissa (Notre Dame) went five strong innings allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits adding two strikeouts.

The Chinooks (19-12) wrap up a three game series with the Bullfrogs Monday, July 1st at 6:35 PM. Autograph Monday will be happening after Monday’s game. Players that will be signing are Cody Bobbit, Aaron Machbitz, Mike Hollenbeck and Mitchell Sewald. Come support the Chinooks as they continue to battle for the first half crown!
