In a game dominated on the mound, Aaron Machbitz  delivered an RBI triple to give the Chinooks the lead for good in a 3-1 14 inning marathon win over the Green Bay Bullfrogs Friday night from Joannes Stadium.

Both starting pitchers where in a groove early on.  Tim Faix (Kent State University) and Derek Callahan traded zeros until the fourth inning when Harrison Bader (University of Florida) took Callahan deep leading off the inning to give the Chinooks the lead.

Green Bay answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single from Tripp Martin scoring teammate Nick Torres who reached on an error by third baseman Brant Valach (Eastern Illinois University)

From that point forward the pitchers regained control. After Faix went six strong, Dan Sayles (Sacramento City College) came on and did yeoman’s work out of the pen. The left-hander threw four strong innings escaping two huge jams in the seventh and eighth innings leaving a pair of Bullfrog runners on base in both frames.

Each team put at least one runner on base in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th inning but could not score.

Lakeshore finally broke through in the 14th inning when Mike Papi  (University of Virginia) scored  on Machbitz’s triple  with one out. Machbitz finished the night 3 for 6 with an RBI and a run scored. He came across to score the second run of the inning on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Krill (Michigan State University). Krill finished the night 0 for 5 to snap a streak of 30 consecutive games reaching base.

Lakeshore has now won four consecutive games dating back to their two-game series against the Eau Claire Express to close out the first half. The team will board a bus to Wausau to take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks in a two-game series beginning Saturday before returning home for their longest homestand of the season.
