Jon Greenberg’s Journey
“I had my annual physical with my primary physician, Dr. Tom Brand, and he ordered the normal blood work and a PSA test as part of the appointments. The PSA test came back with a high number and we re-tested it to make sure that it was correct. It came back higher so he sent me to see Dr. Peter Leonovicz, an urologist in the Aurora family, who immediately scheduled me in for an MRI and a biopsy of my prostate gland which came back and showed that I had cancer. It was a staggering piece of news.
Dr. Leonovicz’s first message was so encouraging — that I would be ok, that we caught it early and that I had two options. I could have the prostate removed or have radiation. I chose the prostatectomy to expedite getting the cancer out of my body and had the procedure on July 28, 2025. It was also determined that I had a hernia that needed be repaired so I met with Dr. Brenda Satchie, also from Aurora and we scheduled that surgery for the same time!
The great news was that the cancer surgery was successful with good margins and I was on the road to recovery. The hernia procedure was also a success!
My wish is for everyone to get their annual physical exam. Without getting mine, I might have had a much different outcome. If you get yours, the odds are that you’re going to be just fine but if not, you’re hopefully getting on a problem early.
I am grateful for all of the great work by the staff at Aurora from the doctors to the nurses to the technicians and everyone who took world class care of me.”
