The Lakeshore Chinooks could not overcome an early deficit against the Kenosha Kingfish on Thursday. They fell by the final score of 4-1.

Chinooks Field Manager Eddy Morgan tipped his cap to Kingfish starter J.D. Nielsen. “He had his changeup up in the zone, and we weren’t disciplined enough to grind out some at-bats…we were way too aggressive,” Morgan said.

Kenosha put three runs on the scoreboard early. In the first, center fielder Taylor Douglas led off the game with a single. Chinooks starting pitcher Cam Vieaux (Michigan State) surrendered another single to Pat Porter that scored Douglas.

First baseman Zach Ratcliff drove in Porter with a double. Ratcliff also scored on a double by shortstop Zack Kolakowski.

With two outs in the fifth, second baseman Chris Godinez hit a single. Porter brought Godinez across with a double.

The southpaw Vieaux lasted five innings in his Chinooks debut. He gave up four runs off seven hits. He also had two strikeouts.

Both Sterling Koerner (Florida Gulf Coast) and Connor Jones (Georgia) pitched efficiently in relief. In two innings, Koerner gave up a hit and had a strikeout. The lefty Jones tossed two shutout innings, issuing a sole walk.

Nielsen went seven innings and picked up his first win of the year. He gave up no runs on four hits. Nielsen struck out four and walked two. After pitching the ninth, right-hander Steven Klimek received his second save.

The Chinooks will play the Kingfish again on Friday, June 13. They will play the La Crosse Loggers Saturday and Sunday, before facing the Madison Mallards in a doubleheader Monday, June 16.
