MADISON, WI – The Madison Night Mares rallied late to defeat the Minot Honeybees 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Warner Park.

Minot struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Sydney Farmer (Tyler Junior College) RBI groundout. The Honeybees then extended the lead to 2-0 in the third inning when Farmer hit a sacrifice fly to score Kaitlynne Allen (Indiana University South Bend).

Kierra Fournier (Minot State) tossed three scoreless innings to open the game, but the Night Mares finally got on the board in the fourth inning when Carly Oliver (University of the Cumberlands) scored on a fielder’s choice to cut the lead to 2-1.

The score remained the same until the sixth inning, when the Night Mares delivered a pair of clutch hits. Oliver led off the inning with a double, and Tia Durst (Lake Land) drove her home with an RBI triple to tie the game 2-2. Kayla Thomas (Campbell University) then brought Durst in to score with an RBI groundout to give the Night Mares a 3-2 lead.

Northwoods League Softball ERA leader Karlie Mckenzie (Eastern Illinois) struck out the side in the top of the seventh inning to secure the victory for the Night Mares. She earned the win for Madison, while Fournier was charged with the loss for Minot.
