On Wednesday night, the St. Cloud Rox raced out to an early lead and never let go of it, defeating the Minot Hot Tots 10-4 to complete the series sweep.
Just like the night before, the Rox hitters wasted no time in getting on the board. A walk turned into a run after a stolen base and two wild pitches. In the second inning, the Rox would collect five hits and bring in four runs. Another run in the third inning made the score 6-0 St. Cloud in a hurry.
Minot did what they could to start some rallies, but against one of St. Cloud’s top arms, Jake Burcham, the Hot Tots couldn’t get a run across. Burcham pitched five scoreless innings with just two hits allowed and a big nine strikeouts.
The Hot Tots would put up a score in the seventh inning. A double by Max Ortega brought in three, cutting the deficit to 8-3.
Ortega would get credit for one more RBI on the night, scoring Henry Allen in the ninth on a groundout.
The short trip to Minnesota ended with an 0-2 record for Minot, but they will look to catch up in the second half standings with a four-game series against the Bismarck Larks over Independence Day weekend. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 6:35 pm CT at Corbett Field.
Max Ortega was Wednesday’s SportClips MVP collecting one hit and all four runs batted in. Centerfielder Zach Doyle went full extension to make a catch in the first inning that stood as the First Command Play of the Game. The Hot Tots were quite successful at getting on base, drawing nine Buffalo Wild Wings Walks.
