After six days on the road, the Minot Hot Tots got to stop at Corbett Field to play one game only against the Bismarck Larks. It didn’t turn out the way the Tots would have wanted it to, but the Military Appreciation Night celebration offered fans a fun night at the ballpark.
The Larks and Tots traded scores to begin the game, but it was Bismarck who erupted in the third inning. The first two batters of the inning reached base for the Larks and Erick Dessens brought them both in on a double. Jayder Raifstanger helped Dessens cross home plate with an RBI single later in the inning. The Larks led 4-1 after the half inning and soon would add to the lead.
Dessens again was credited for an RBI on a sacrifice fly that scored Reed Marquardt from third. The next batter, Sydney Ward, showcased his power at the plate with a two-run home run launched to left field. Heading into the bottom of the fourth, Bismarck led 7-1.
Still with time to come back, the Hot Tots tried to churn out hits and baserunners against Larks starter Lake Hagen, but it just wouldn’t happen. Hagen pitched five innings allowing two hits and one unearned run.
A couple of scoreless innings in the middle moved the game right along, but another hang up was on the way in the eighth inning. The Larks scored four runs on four hits to create a double-digit advantage of 11-1. Back at it they were in the ninth with four more scores.
Minot was still unable to get anything across the plate against reliever Cade Sonoqui, who worked through a 12-out save to wrap up the game 15-1 in favor of the Larks.
Minot will look to get even with the Larks tomorrow from Municipal Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm CT from Bismarck.
Jackson Duncan pitched three innings of relief for the Tots on Sunday and delivered the SRT Fastest Pitch of 90 mph. Henry Allen’s multi-hit day at the plate was deserving of SportClips MVP honors. Shortstop Bryson Webb started a double play in the seventh inning that would go down as the First Command Play of the Game. The Hot Tots drew one Buffalo Wild Wings Walk.
