Bringing Northwoods League Action to Watford City

For the first time this summer, the Minot Hot Tots brought the electric atmosphere of Northwoods League baseball directly to western North Dakota. Fans poured into American Legion Post 29’s Glenn Wahus Memorial Field for a two-game series against the St. Cloud Rox, creating an unforgettable atmosphere from the very first pitch.

Game 1: An Eighth-Inning Explosion

Saturday night delivered one of the most thrilling finishes of the Hot Tots’ season. Down 9-5 heading into the bottom of the eighth, the Tots erupted for eight runs to turn the game completely upside down.

The comeback kicked off with a towering 3-run home run by Keoni Painter to bring Minot within one, followed immediately by a solo shot from Tyler Arnold to tie the game at 9-9. Austyn Peak’s RBI double handed the Hot Tots their first lead of the night, before Micah McCoy broke it wide open with a two-run single. Minot held off a late ninth-inning push from the Rox to secure a wild 13-10 victory in front of a roaring crowd.

Game 2: Rox Bounce Back in Sunday Finale

Sunday afternoon turned into a classic pitchers’ duel. St. Cloud jumped ahead early and rode six scoreless innings from starter Tyler Phenow to hold off the Hot Tots’ offense, taking the series finale 4-0. Despite the low-scoring contest, fans stayed engaged all afternoon with on-field games, mascot visits from Tate R. Tot, and family-friendly ballpark entertainment.
