A three-run home run by Pete Alonso was the only scoring in a tight all-star game showcase where the South topped the North 3-0 in action at Kapco Park in Mequon, Wisconsin. Mequon is home to the South Division leading Lakeshore Chinooks.
The Thunder Bay Border Cats were represented by Outfielder Tyler Rolland (Southern Illinois) who made the starting lineup and went 0-2 and Catcher Christian Correa (Nicholls State) who drew a walk going 0-1.
The North out hit the south by a 9-3 count but could not capitalize on a few great chances in the ball game. Correa stayed patient and drew the free the pass in the top of the 7th but nothing came of it after a fielder's choice and a strikeout ended the threat. Rolland put a good swing on one in the 5th but it was tracked down by South side Center Fielder Troy Montgomery.
Correa and Rolland will rejoin their team mates in Willmar, Minnesota as the Border Cats take on the Stingers to re-boot the regular season action on Thursday night. Action at Bill Taunton Stadium begins at 8:05 EDT.
