The Thunder Bay Border Cats are proud to announce that Danny Benedetti will be returning as Field Manager for the 2016 Northwoods League season. Benedetti, a former catcher, played with the Border Cats in 2007 and 2008 and was a member of Thunder Bay's Northwoods League Championship team in ’08.
Since graduating in 2009 from St. John’s University in New York, Benedetti has built an impressive coaching resume. He has been a coach in the NWL with both the Border Cats and Alexandria Beetles, a manager with Sag Harbor of the Hamptons Summer Collegiate League, and he's currently an assistant coach at St. John’s University.
The 29-year old native of Long Beach, California, led the Cats to a 33-38 record last season and a fifth place finish in the North Division, one spot away from a playoff berth. "I'm very excited to be returning to the Border Cats and the Northwoods League this coming season," stated Benedetti. "We made some strides on the field last year, but our ultimate goal is to make the playoffs and bring a third league championship to the great fans in Thunder Bay. The recruiting process is well underway and we expect to have a very competitive team this summer," added Benedetti.
Border Cats President/General Manager Brad Jorgenson is thrilled to have his Field Manager back in 2016. "Danny has tremendous recruiting ties across the college baseball landscape and we are extremely pleased to have continuity with our manager's position for a second straight season."
The Border Cats open their 14th season at home on Tuesday, May 31st, at Tbaytel Park.
